MD1 YM2612 and MD2 YM2612

Post by TmEE co.(TM) »

Here's the samples (Sonic 3 competition screen) :

Unmodded early MD1 without TMSS (headphone jack) :

MD2 with Crystal Clear Audio Mod :

I would say, that MD1 YM2612 is 9 or 10 bits while MD2 YM2612 is 12 or more...
I'll do lot more experimenting on this. I have 2x such MD1, which of 1 stays nearly unmodded, and with other I will be trying to CCAM it, so far, not succeeded getting audio as good as from my MD2, discrete YM2612 has much lower output levels...
Mida sa loed ? Nagunii aru ei saa ;)

Here, I finally got to use the better equipment at the music studio here, and this is what I got. On the "star" sound, the equipment says it's 9-bit, though this machine hasn't been calibrated for the Genesis, it may be off.

And there does appear to be stereo separation issues, when using this more HQ recording equipment, on the rings, as you mentioned.
