[Help me]How can I appoint the start address in a Rom file?

Post by sniperhgy »

Dear All, I'm a new comer in this Forum.

I have a collection maker for MD roms, it named "Super 4 in 1.zip", if I extract it to a folder, I'll get 3 files : "Read me.txt", "Super 4 in 1.gen" and "VIRTUAL FLASH ROM Manager.exe". In the Read me file, it says that rename the first rom's name to RomA.bin, the second to RomB.bin ..., after do that, just double click the "VIRTUAL FLASH ROM Manager.exe", then you can get a gen file with 4 sega games, but the problem is the size of the created gen file is 12 MB, only the emulator "Gens32 Surreal" can work on it, but if I close the emulator, then it will raise a error message just like "0x00000000 memory can't read ....".

So I want to reduce the size of the gen file, can anybody help me? Thank you very much. By the way, how can I upload the Super 4 in 1.zip to this forum?[/img]

.gen and .bin aren't the same file extensions. :)
Upload file on other website. ;)

Yes, I know they are different ext. name, but this tool just use four .bin file and a .gen file to create a collection game.

You can't reduce the size without compression or removing games, neither of which helps you. X-in-1 type roms are huge - there's no way around it. They are also not well supported by emulators. I'd just forget the whole thing and just mess with individual games.

As Chilly Willy said, the option is implementing compression, but that implementation also has size, it may be impossible to reduce size as you want.
[..]ext. name[..]
Dementi - extension/file format. Extension names aren't only difference. ;)
But I think, you thought that. ;)

You must also remember, that, you must convert bin to gen, or gen to bin, to do it working. :)

Just upload it. :)
