next step : capture data with my Saleae -> see you in some months

7 years passed since 2017 and I didn't use the Saleae mainly anymore. I still have it but Dreamsource is much handle and you can easily make any decoder you ever need just python it with prefered TXT editor. You can even unzip the captured data and parse it with your own application, I already done it before. Small example with capture PC IDE ATAPI:

it sounds like you're talking about the MCU that's part of the CDD in Sega's parlance (or the Mechanism Controller in some of the schematics). When Sega's docs talk about the CDC, they're referring to the LC8915 (or a chip in this family).

While doing some research on seeking, I found that the duration depend of distance (between current pos and wanted pos), perhaps it's what you call "not ready status" ?
It was already on my "warning" list because of that.
I see it's more sensible that I though.

Okay, since old captures is lost and moreover they was made by not quite handy Saleae I'll recapture tests, that I did on previous pages with Dreamsource LA and then share with you. After that we can agree to do some more test if they needed.

I saw DSView is based on sigrok...does it mean decoder follow the same rule than for sigrok ?
if yes, I already know how I could write a command/status decoder and a subcode decoder

I looked back to my main source, the MCD_MaintenanceManual_Export_RevA.pdf and they use "CDD" for anything relative to "CD-Driver" (IRQ,Subcode, data,command) and MiCom for the MCU
You also find MiCom on MCD2 doc
Mechanism Controller is used on MCD2 and XEyes docs

so let's go for MiCom (i found "Mechanism" too much related to motor and lazer, like if it wasn't linked to the CD DSP too)

I don't think we're talking about the same thing. Here's a couple of images from a test ROM I wrote a while back. It seeks to a point close to the beginning of a disc, let's it play for a few short period and then seeks towards the end of the disc. All the while, it prints out some info whenever a level 4 or level 5 interrupt occurs. For level 4 interrupts the format is

TTTT 44SF PPPPPP PC
where T is the 12-bit free-running timer value, S is the status nibble, F is the format nibble, P is the main payload of the CDD status message (from the "Micom"), and C is the checksum nibble.

For level 5 interrupts the format is

TTTT 5555 CCDDEE FF
where
T is again the free-runing timer, C is CDC register $C (aka STAT0), D is CDC register $D (aka STAT1), etc.

Notice that while in the playing state, CDC and CDD interrupts occur at the same rate, the intervals indicated by the free-running timer are roughly 1/75th of a second and the report format is always the selected one (0 in this case which gives absolute timing info). Once it starts seeking though, the CDC interrupts largely continue as normal, but CDD interrupts get less frequent (roughly 1 CDD interrupt for every 3 CDC interrupts). It also periodically returns a format of $F (not ready) instead of the requested one (roughly every 3rd status is like this). When the BIOS gets a CDD status with a format of $F, it will clear its cached track number. Without this getting cleared it will not update its recorded track number when it gets a format 2 status (current track). This is almost certainly a bug since it explicitly requests format 2 periodically.

There must be some other condition that causes the BIOS to update the cached track number since it correctly ticks over in the CD player when there's no seeking involved, but I remember running into some trouble with games that would seek to a particular track and then check for it before I implemented this periodic "not ready" thing.

There was version #2, which was more like Sigrok, and now there is version #3, which is basically a Sigrok-style skeleton, and also had some interesting improvements added to it. So yes, if you know the Sigrok you will easily made a new decoder to DSL. And yes, you can use DSL software without requiring attached DSL LA itself.
