Did you play any of these? I bought a bunch ($9.99 - $14.99 a pop!) about ten years ago. They were available on RealArcade. Sonic, Comix Zone, Vectorman, etc.

The video output with no filters enabled is still blurry. It doesn't look as crisp and pixelated as it should, and this likely affects how filters look. Interestingly, Normal2x looks more pixelated than completely disabled filter plugins.

The Past songs use PCM samples for the instruments. Get it? Past? Supposed to sound older...?

It sounds much better than anything previously. (SNESamp, etc.)

Then set maximum volume on MD1 (to get maximal signal-to-noise ratio) and attenuate it on Audigy mixer. BTW, volume of this track not so loud, so I set all to maximum.

Does the Genesis 1 HD max volume really produce the greatest signal-to-noise ratio? I thought about 75% was the most distortion ...

It gives you an option to kill the emulator before creating a new instance to play the newly built VGM rom.
