Samurai Shodown (PAL) pixel garbage?

Post by Kettenhund » Sat Oct 29, 2011 3:27 pm

Hi there,

i just got a copy of Samurai Shodown for my megadrive where i get some pixel garbage lines on the screen (in character select + ingame). it doesn't happen in any emulator so i'm asking if my cartdige is damaged or does this happen for others as well on real machine? tried it on both my Megadrive 1 and 2. Happens with RGB as well as with a RF unit. i attached a video showing the pixel garbage.

The video is unavailable.

But, I'm assuming we are talking about the static-like bug at the bottom of the screen, right?

Hey, i just discovered i suffer from the same glitchs on my Sega CDX with US version of Samourai Shodown. I believe it's a bug in the game which is probably writing to CRAM during active display...

This happens with pretty every game that writes to the CRAM during the active display. It's not unique to Samauri Showdown.

Look at any Sonic game with a water level on actual hardware. You'll get garbage on that too.

Edit: I just reread it... does he literally mean the entire line?

I get that junk mid-screen in Streets of Rage 2 as well, whenever a new part of the scene loads (when the "GO" sign first pops up).

Interestingly, the one on the bottom of the screen in the overscan area is different depending on if the machine is set to 50 or 60hz.
