PSG noise using the YM2612?

In the song "Parking Garage" from the game Demolition Man, one can hear PSG noise being used for percussion. The odd thing about that is, it is being played on the third FM channel and not through the SMS chip.

Curious to try it out, I ripped the instrument using GensKmod, but when loading it into TFM I discovered it doesn't sound the same at all. It sounds like the typical FM noise used for example in Master of Monsters percussion.

Can someone explain why this is? Is the YM2612 actually capable of producing this kind of noise but it's not supported in TFM, or is it an emulation bug?

Cool thing, finally proper example of this method of noise generation. Unlike usual FM noise from overloaded operator 1 with maximum feedback, this method uses all four operators in a row. Try to modify TLs of operators while playing on very low notes, it produces some interesting noises. Can't get the same noise, though.

Interesting. You can get a similar sound by using a very low frequency, but in the game, 4-frequency mode is used.

Could this possibly be using the multi-frequency mode on channel 3 to alter the timbre somehow?

Probably it uses the multi-frequency mode exactly to this. Would be interesting to check which frequencies are used on playing this sound.
