XQuest 2 for Sega Genesis / Mega Drive

This is a W.I.P. vibe-port experiment converting Mark Mackey's XQuest 2 from MS-DOS to Sega Genesis / Megadrive, using Claude.

Part of the gameplay is already there:

[*] The player's spaceship controls feels like the original;
[*] The enemies are starting to behave like the original;
[*] It's already possible to collect all the crystals and finish the level;
[*] Players and enemies can already collide against the background;
[*] The background is scrolling;
[*] The exit gate gives indication that it's open;
[*] The game is spawning enemies from the portals;
[*] The enemy sprites are mostly correct;
[*] The difficulty feels similar to the original.

Some things that aren't working so well:
[*] Some enemies keep teleporting all over the place;
[*] The background borders are still wrong;
[*] The exit gate still looks wrong;
[*] The sound works, but the effects are mixed up;
[*] Most of the enemies sill behave weirdly.
