Isn't the TL logarithmic? And 5 or 7 bits? So it wouldn't have much range - much like trying to do PCM on the PSG. It would probably sound better if you did the samples the same way as on the PSG - use all the channels with special tables on which channel to change to reduce the noise. Do three per side, seeing as we have six.

7bit logarithmic per operator, you'd need lot of work on the operators to get somewhat decent sound and it would require a lot of CPU power
