PD rom YM2612 Editor (SPATULA) doesn't output audio

Post by neologix » Fri Jun 29, 2012 9:37 pm

Some time ago, Paul Jensen emailed me a copy of a public domain Genesis rom "YM2612 Editor by K. Banks" (aka SPATULA). In an older version of Kega Fusion it would output audio fine (it basically plays scales w/the given YM2612 preset and allows editing the preset), but none of the emulators I have seem to output any audio, tho the cursor moves fine. None of the non-dpad buttons seem to have any effect.

Am I just having a brain-fart w/this rom or what? I distinctly remember it outputting scales and I wanted to log that to VGM for my programming testing.

I can see it doesn't seem to work in Regen, but it appears to output audio just fine in the latest version of Kega.

hm, apparently i didn't have kega on this particular computer AT ALL. DLed it and it indeed outputs audio!

as to why it doesn't output audio on any other emulator i've tried (gens/gs and mess 0144; libretro build of genesis plus gx doesn't open it at all), i have no idea.

Well, it doesn't work on real hardware (doesn't even show display), so I'd bet on the program not being correct rather than a problem with the emulators.
