UMDK Manufacture: who wants one?

Hello all,

I have spent a lot of time since 2012 supporting UMDK and created this thread to get UMDK out to MD Developers.

I am sorry but I will not be censored by kaneda or any one else and I raised what I felt were pertinent points with regards to Oerg's insistence and overly pushy methods.

(links was here)

Thank you and I apologise for this.

You guys will still be able to buy UMDK and benefit from all the contacts I have made in getting this project underway.

I firmly believe in UMDK but I have to say I will not tolerate this cul-de-sac mentality from kaneda. I have a right to raise statements as I choose to.

Sprites Mind to my mind has become a place of little activity and no long-term goals and certainly little to no community oriented focus and as such has no place for me as some one interested in developing software for the Megadrive.

Cheers,

Minty.

EDIT (KanedaFr) : Following a member request, I removed 2 links to his site BUT didn't edit anything else (insult or not)

Hi Minty, everyone.

I have successfully assembled a board set by hand. Nearly twice, actually, but that's a different story ;') It was a stretch and don't think I could have done it without the stereo microscope that I bought recently.

I would be happy to assemble a couple of board sets to help people out, but I think if there were more than 2 or 3 needed then it would be worthwhile having a number assembled professionally. I have a contact in Germany who has a factory facility, and is willing to do smaller hobbyist runs. I can pass on his details. I also know someone here in my native UK who might be able to help. Not perhaps on an industrial scale but certainly more automated than I can manage.

While I'd be happy building a few kits for beer-money I'm not prepared to assemble the major component sets. This is a job for someone who has accounts at reasonably priced electronics parts resellers, or the patience to wait for the slow boat I think :D

Hi,

Of course I want one, but I'm unable to make it myself.
I'm looking for a good fellow to make one for me ;)

I certainly wouldn't mind having one, but more for a demo I'm working on than my emulator work. Most of the time when I'm interested in 68K bus activity for BlastEm, I want to know how it correlates with some other signal that's not accessible on the cartridge port so it's easier to just use my logic analyzer for everything. For the demo, though, there have been times when I've done something like lock up the machine due to DMA weirdness where it would have been handy to know exactly where it locked up.

I may be able to assemble one (I'd probably have to acquire some better soldering equipment, but I've been wanting to do that anyway); however, I fear that the parts would just sit in a pile with some of my other projects that are currently on the back burner.

I did send you a message asking you for some assistance but you ignored it.
Just to be clear on this one.
I didn't reply yes, and I apologize for that.
But I first contacted Prophet to get his point of view of this.

Result is you WON'T find here a lot of people interested in.
Why ? several reasons, same as for software, :
- already have a flashcart or expensive everdrive
- won't use something I didn't create myself (and open source is not enough)
- emulator is enough

You can't force people to get an UMDK, even if it's the must-needed tool to get into real development.
I tweeted about, I posted about.
I won't ban anyone who don't want to buy an UMDK !

I'm not also full of money.
If I could, I'd pay for a batch of 50 and make them available here for anyone wanting one (and I already knew it will sell mainly to collector only to resell them 4 times the price in 5 years).
I could only pay for Spritesmind fees, that's all.

So yes, it's a shame to see such a good kit with such a few success.
but look at the genny scene, it's the same.
Lot of great devers, lot of great tools, lot of great kits and ... what ?
5 or 6 releases in +15years ?!
So don't expect anything to change because UMDK is available.

It's my 2 cents, anyone can disagree with but it's what I feel.
