USBMicro and Arduino

Did someone make some experiment with usbmicro or/and arduinoboard ?
I'm looking for a cheap and easy (read : for electro newbie!) way to interface my PC with the gen..err...outside world throught USB...
From what I read, it's usbmicro main goal but Arduino board seems to be very popular.
USBMicro provide a lib to communicate with the board while Arduino use a new language to program the chip firmware which can send you data throught the COM it emulates on USB port.
USBMicro NEEDS to be connected to a PC to work while Arduino (since the logic is on the firmware) can work disconnected (but with power of course)
so...what do you know/think of them ? or another low cost solution ?
