This com stuff is really painful to emulate too, I remember spending days on it trying to avoid game deadlocks. It seems Eke had beeter luck getting that emulated at least.

I see you have some photos of it, you can crop it from here for another a bit less blurry version:

The ROM is NOT original. It has been modified to hell to get the game playable AT ALL. And the EMULATOR is modified aswell. With tons of workarounds for ONE GAME you MODIFY the original GOAL of an emulator. It's like N64 emulation! It sucks! That ROM is a proper dump, I've compared it to my own dum...

The function to copy data from RAM to VRAM (copied from Shiru) was randomly causing the problems The function you removed looks ok (and also does DMA), the only real difference this causes is that z80 bus is no longer requested during the DMA transfer. Is z80 running valid code when this is called?...

Well I've just checked what happens to angrybirds - it somehow ends up executing Z80 code on ROM window, which trips out drz80 (the z80 asm core). So maybe SGDK starts Z80 without loading Z80 program first, or something like that, haven't looked in detail. Off topic: can Z80 run from the ROM window ...

IIRC there is also bunch of registers in the SH2s themselves that affect how SH2s access the memory and the timings. Messing with those might affect all this too.

Re: Weird problem with SGDK on REAL hardware

We have only found one emulator the game doesn't work with: Picodrive 1.80 (used on a OpenPandora, I suppose Wiz/Caanoo versions behave the same). Check /tmp/pndrun* file after running on pandora, it might have some information about what happens to the emu. In general it sounds like an interesting...

Actually you don't need a school to learn C/asm or programming in general, you learn it by doing it. The key here is to be active in learning yourself and be persistent, not expect someone to teach you.

Not really, there are a few licensed ones that are not, I think they were some sports games that do it at $30xxxx, somebody like Eke probably remembers better.

I've tried to dump the cart long ago... It uses some kind of banking, there's only 512KB seen on MD side due to lack of more address lines on the cart I had, there's also some special strobes connected. I did not document anything and I never got a full dump, I did not try hard either. Where did yo...

That's some useful notes, thanks Eke.

So you managed to avoid lockstepping for all those games? If so that's pretty cool, as some of those supposedly locktep-needing games were not fast enough to be pleasantly playable on GP2X/PSP on PicoDrive, because lockstep is expensive.
