Firstly! Amazed that these things are floating about, Wonder how many more are in storage?! Your best bet would be to remove the HDD if you dare, and slave it in a PC, possibly running Dosbox and i can help you recover those files with some really interesting recovery tools i used to use on Acorn PC...

Yeah i suppose honesty is the best policy but people learn from other peoples code and sources. I understand what he's trying to do and yeah it would be a good idea to learn ASM deeply first, but why fault him for disassembling it? Its a lot quicker to take it in than just reading programming manual...

I know what your getting at Jedite, Its hard to be in any kind of classification without professional work experience, best thing you can do is continue what your doing and work on what makes you happy.
