I recently made some current consumption measurements on the NTSC Virtua Racing cart. http://gendev.spritesmind.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1931 This should, in my opinion, be the maximum amount of current one should design for at the cartridge port for a new and powerful cart. Just for fun, I also me...

Silly of me to talk about a heatsink and not post any pictures of it! The entire board is wrapped in cheap-feeling RF shielding and a small aluminium heatsink is mounted on the SVP. https://sites.google.com/a/db-elec.com/main/_/rsrc/1416437004105/home/technical-info/Genesis/sega-virtua-processor/VRc...

No problem! There's goop on the main chip because it has heatsink mounted on it in the cart. https://sites.google.com/a/db-elec.com/main/_/rsrc/1416437024328/home/technical-info/Genesis/sega-virtua-processor/VRFront.jpg https://sites.google.com/a/db-elec.com/main/_/rsrc/1416436993507/home/technical-...

Current Consumption Measurements of Various Game Cartridges

I felt like a good first use of my Genesis Probing Adapter would be to measure the current consumption of various games. I think this helps set an good guideline to follow when designing new carts. I think the Virtua Racing value is a good limit to follow. Here are a few results: Sonic 3 - 13.2 mA S...

I don 't think FPGA cyclone III I/O pins are 5V tolerant. Maybe i don't understand your goal or your cart isn't complete ? You can't input 5V directly to a Cyclone FPGA, but the chip design allows for a series resistor on 5V inputs to limit the current flow in the PCI clamping diode. See this appno...

I know, the main intent is definitely not to sell, but I figured I'd post it here in case some people would need one (I know I need one!)

Just a Simple Cartridge Port Probing Adapter

I made a simple pass-through cartridge PCB to facilitate probing cartridge signals using an oscilloscope or logic analyser. All signals are labelled on both top and bottom silkscreen. It'll also permit to easily inject signals in into the console (i.e. from an FPGA dev board). http://www.db-elec.com...

Can I suggest that the display support enharmonic equivalents?

i.e. through an options menu it could be selectable to either display notes as sharps or flats? Eb vs. D#, etc...

Great tool Neologix! Essentially I'd want my VGM tool to convert VGM instruments to .eif like yours, but I would also convert any samples to echo format, and generate a .esf with proper references to the generated instruments. Edit: and having a real-time preview for instruments would be awesome bec...

Yes I did, it just seems like a convoluted process to write a song in MIDI, then setup instruments in some other software, then use all these tools to convert everything to Echo format. The lack of any real-time preview makes these tools un-ideal in my opinion. It would be great if everything could ...

I noticed I had VGM Music Maker 1.1 on my machine, I've just uploaded it to my website:

Tool Use to output Echo Stream Files

I recently found out about the Echo sound driver for MD; this really looks like it's the way of the future for sound on the MD. The only problem I'm encountering so far is the "easy" generation of Echo Stream Files. It doesn't look like anyone thus far has written a tracker for Echo format. I really...
