Yeah, I know. I just love these chips and the thought of even one being destroyed, for any reason... *shudder*

Yep. Doesn't make any sense at all, does it? I'd like to hear this particular sound from a known completely unmodified PAL MD2 before I think about it too much, though

I have no idea on what the sample Aamir provided came from but the sound is even louder than TmEE's CCAM MD2. I really think that must have been modified in some way. Or is just broken

Can you post recordings from your modified MD2 of these tracks...I'd really like to hear them using your audio mod.
Blaster Master - TUNE 3
Heavy Nova - BGM 10
Hellfire - BGM 07
Subterrania - ENEMY MINES (LEVEL IV)
Combat Cars - BGM 03

Oh yeah? So you need just do brute force attack with all combinations all parameters and record the result. And see what happend. If somebody starts do this, say, in 2000, it will be already done, I think.

That's what I've been doing since 1997

One thing with Hellfire, the music will be 2x slower... that is so on all MD2 based systems... mr. Snake can tell more about it I think...
Heavy Nova is much likely to suffer from heavy clipping (on many tunes) as MD2 YM2612 seems to start clipping at lower amplitudes that real YM2612.
And Wondermega sounds exactly like MD2, despite having the earliest MD2 ASIC in it.

sorry, I forget to ask: could you do a recording of Ecco: the Tide of Time 's splash sound (first level, do some jump out of the water, Gens is reproducing the sound more realistic than other emulators though I don't know if realistic=reality)
thanks again

I have a question (this is a big one too): what asics are used in all the versions of the MD/genesis, and what is the label of each YM2612 or 2612-clone chip in each one?
And how do wondermega and the Amstrad mega-pc and mega-pc plus fit in to all this?
Also, what is the chronological order of the system revision releases?
(This data is needed to clean up the MD/genesis driver in MESS)

My turn.
Same track (MD1, YM2612), but not VGM -
true PD ROM (for more details
see this page).

Someone have been busy

Mike-Stamp made one impressive ripping work too.
EDIT: How is your track recorded, is there any post processing done ?
Now for ASICs, I've come accross 3 compatible variants, 315-5487 (used in MD1 VA7, Wondermega, MD2 VA0), 315-5660 (MD2 VA1 and VA3, X'eye) and 513-7000 (Nomad). All have same pinout and seem to be working same (though I have no idea how same, no good equipment to do detail testing...).
And Hellfire plays at correct speed in VGM

Kega has this game 100% correct. In fact, there are two different sounds, and it seems like Gens is only playing one of them.

exactly what I noticed
the second sound seemed weird into my hear but if you can confirm it happens on real hw also, that's fine

Yeah. It seems you're meant to hear a 'splash' when you are out of the water, and that other slightly odd sound when you're under it.
