Regen 0.971 and 0.971D

Post by AamirM » Sat Oct 24, 2009 4:35 pm

Regen 0.971 and 0.971D released

This is a quick maintenance release mainly to fix some stability issues. As before, there are three builds, normal, SSE2 optimized and the debug build. The SSE2 optimized build should now work on AMD processors that support SSE2 (there was bug in previous release which prevented this). The internal version number of Regen executable hasn't been changed so that the previous localization DLLs will keep working for this new release as well since it is mainly a bug fix release. It is recommended however that translators update their translations for this new release as it adds few new stuff as well.
As always, download from here.

Excellent! I'll be testing it here in a few mins. I'll see if I can find anymore crashes. ;)

Three suggestions.

1) A "Plugin Configuration" option added to the plugins menu for those plugins that have options (NTSC). Have it grayed out if it's a plugin that doesn't have any options.

2) I think you should separate load Master System and Game Gear in the File menu (add one for each) since they're typically stored in different directories from each other. This will require a LastGGROM INI field to be added. :P

3) Can you apply the message font/size to the FPS display too?

Load Master System ROM
Load Game Gear ROM

EDIT: I hear a really loud crack/pop when loading a SMS ROM, is this normal?

EDIT 2: I still have issues setting up my controller with Regen. It locks up when trying to associate the B button.

Here, I fixed a typo in the latest History. :P
Version 0.971
-------------
This is a quick maintenance release mainly to fix some stability issues.
The internal version number of Regen executable hasn't been changed so that
the previous localization DLLs will keep working for this new release as well since
it is mainly a bug fix release. It is recommended however that translators update
their translations for this new release as it add few stuff as well.

* Fixed localization DLL not being loaded correctly sometimes and converted some
ANSI parts to Unicode internally.

* Fixed Regen crashing when loading a Genesis game after SMS/GG.

* Fixed Regen crashing when SuperHQ is toggled during SMS/GG.

* Fixed Regen crashing when Save/Load State As was selected.

* Fixed Regen SSE2 optimized build crashing on Athlon64.

* Fixed UAC related crashes on Windows Vista/7.

* Fixed Sonic 3D Blast crashing in bonus stage.

* Fixed CRAM viewer in the VDP debugger.

* Altered 68k and VDP timings a little bit. Fixes the Street Racer background
(sky) gradient.

* Added configurable lowpass filtering. Its only available in SuperHQ mode.
It configures the internal filtering applied when in HQ mode. The other
"Lowpass filter" is not affected by this. That applies filtering to the final
sound output.

* Added the ability to choose on screen message font.

* Added smooth animation (aka interframe blending with motion blurring). Makes
the output image a little realistic and closer to TV.

* Added ".md" extension to the ROM loading stuff.

Found a reproducible way to crash Regen. :P

1) Make sure you have this archive which contains a cheat file and a SRAM file and rename them to your Sonic 3 & Knuckles ROM and put them in the appropriate directories.

2) Load Sonic 3 & Knuckles and enable the Rings Modifier to 50 rings, and enable all five Disable Super/Hyper Music cheats.

3) Play the last save slot with Knuckles with all the emeralds, and choose act 1.

4) When the level starts jump in the air to attempt to transform into Hyper Knuckles but Regen will crash because of the enabled codes.

Yeah, the pop/crackle happens with Sega Master System games too. I'll try to reproduce the cheat click crash.

I think Regen needs a new icon, since it scales badly on Windows 7. I personally don't have the time to whip something up but I found something on DeviantArt...

Just download the icon from the person's DeviantArt page and use it - it includes all icons within it. :P

I'd like to throw in that the no-intro dump of NBA Jam Tournament Edition (World).md doesn't run--it gives alternating vertical black and blue bars.

Edit: Runs OK in Fusion (guess I shouldn't be surprised by that, considering?) :)

2nd edit: tried it in debugger. It's failing something and hanging itself up with a loop. Doubt that helps. Hehe.

AamirM

I notice only in this time, Regen create Sram for all games!
Include which not support it, for example: Aladdin, Contra, Lion King 2, Sonic 1, Thunder Force 3, etc.

Thanks, SSE2 work good, i must check all games for crashes.
It may take more than 3~4 days :-)

You're right, it is creating SRM files for all games.

That's a myth, Microsoft fixed the majority of issues in Vista with monthly patches and the two service packs. The main Vista "issue" was the horrible third party drivers that caused a lot of BSODs. I had Vista for several years and never had any of the problems people claim there was.

But yes, Windows 7 is a major improvement over Vista - and is the worthy successor to Windows XP. I have had Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 64-bit since it was released in August and I love it.

Well, looks like i must buy Windows 7 :-)

I many years worry about wide screen LCD and LED monitors, if i buy for example: LED monitor 16:9, it cause problems with my emulators which i run in 1280x1024 resolution, and Diablo 2 LOD in 800x600?

Currently i use LCD 5:4 he work more than 2 years and 6 months and no have any no work pixels!
