AamirM, i found new bugs.

Some bugs in Game Gear:

Serious bug Game gear can take all CPU loading at 100% (Athlon 64 X2 6000+).
Stretching may cause glitches in Sonic the hedgehog 1 then screen of next stage change.
I found in Sonic Adventure 1 DX Director's Cut (PC Game) mini games (Emulator inside)
which does correct PSG noise volumes.

Sega Genesis:

Some strange issues with sound for example in Sonic 3D blast:
Then select sound test, just select music and change numbers 01 to 20 and 20 to 01
sometimes PSG change intonation (this is must be timing issues).

game "4 in 1.gen" only work Robocop 3.
game "Super 19 in 1.gen" only work MS Pacman.
some music distortion in Golden Axe 3, for testing enter in options and listen BGM 13.

Bug in Cheats:
Regen crash then click on empty place of menu.

Sram issues, another people reported about these problems, thanks :-)

Terminator 2 Arcade Game: then i use Sega Menacer, i can't continue
game then loose live, press start but it not work, i try to shoot in screen
but it not work, maybe i do something wrong?

Quick Save states have some minor bugs, i testing it very long time,
but issues appears rarely, for example: i play in "Great Circus Mystery, The - Starring Mickey & Minnie.gen"
in last level, then fight with last boss, i press quick save, and load it again, graphic glitches appears,
i exit from game, and load it again but game load correctly! :-0

Another game Judge dredd, if load saved game sound maybe have strange signal, but if press start button
twice this bug disappeared!

New cheat - Judge Dredd:

I want menu for select roms in Fullscreen mode (very required) :-)

Theory work of capacitors:

in my first message i talk about PSG levels, sorry but maybe no one understand me. ;-)

in real thing, capacitors which does volume control of PSG noises,
capacitors always must be loaded to 50% (this is average volume of PSG channels),
if capacitors load at 35% then music and sfx will be too loud (My own experiment),
and if capacitors will be load at 75% or 90% then music play very silently.
I don't know how to make program code which will does it?

besides, i think part of YM2612 "DAC" some times work loud like example:
Sonic & Knuckles, rings and some other items sounds very loud. In real thing
almost channels sounds at correct levels, rings loud at 14%, PSG and parts of YM2612
at average levels(stable), but no one emu can't do it.

Yes very close to real thing is "Overdrive" filter, but some musical elements sounds
silently.

Regen have all functions of Sega Magistr, but not have "loud synthesis levels",
please make this filter of "loud synthesis levels".

And more, some issues maybe have in reality, i forgot some stuff, in last time played "real console" in 2003 year, sorry if i make some mistakes in this bug reports :-)

This is messages for all people, no one known me, but i can tell more:
me 23 years, i'm Shadow from Russia, a have a lot free time for testing programs,
i still not found any work because i have some problems (i don't tell it), i have average level knowledge of
English language (about 4728 words only) i can read any text, but extreme difficult to write, this is very
hard for me.

unfortunately a have very limited access, i use wireless connection, my money disappears like a wind,
and i must put some amount of money, maybe in next month i connect to Internet again.

I found solve, games 4 in 1 and 19 in 1 works with Autofix Checksum :-)
but then i press "hard reset" only launched game reset's, menu with games
don't appears, only if load rom again!

Robocop 3 not work, only flashes red screen on "SEGA" logo. :?

Thank you very much for the all the bug reports. Gives me enough motivation to restart work on Regen ;) .

I'll check (and fix) these bugs out as soon as possible. Due to job/work, I really have limited time to work on Regen these days.

Last Problems in Regen 0.96

Hi AamirM

This is last problems, which cause problems, maybe only with my computers?

I thought, this is must be issues with drivers for audio and video, i always download newest drivers,
but it not solve my problems with speed.

Functions, show messages and show FPS work not well, i run Regen, all messages work perfect, but
if i enter in fullscreen mode, nothing show, if i return in window mode, nothing show too.
I testing it on both PC.

Some problems Regen with "Window Mode" and "Fullscreen Mode" picture works not smoothly, some small losses of speed, FPS Show 57~61.
(anothers emus: NES(Nestopia), GBA(VBA-M), and some others,
always run at 59~60 FPS) I testing it on both PC.

Kega Fusion 3.61 have speed problems too (in fullscreen 57~61 FPS) these problems fixed, if i enable: "Use Alternate Timing" and FPS show always 60!
Old emulator "Gens" have speed problems too! (very strange problems)

First PC:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+

Audio: Realtek HD ALC 889A

NTSC Filter

In this day, i read old messages about NTSC Filter, i known, in the past (2003 year) i played games on "Sega Magistr Drive" she allow to play games in NTSC mode, my old TV set "JVC" work perfectly in NTSC mode. In Russia standard color systems is PAL and SECAM, i remember picture on TV, picture sharp, another color system, correct transparence effects.
But NTSC filter, very blurry, transparence effects wrong, colors not correct, brightness dark.
But i never give up, and believe what in one day NTSC filter will be like real TV emulation :D

I tested in the last month Genesis filter, but he very slow 30~45 FPS!

I hope what in one day somebody make perfect Genesis filter ;-)

I use Hq2xS (Nitsuja) filter with super quality, but don't do transparence effects.

Do you know about filters which work very close to real thing?

Command Line bug

I detect small bug in command line support:
if write file extension with capital letter, for example:
Regen --Fullscreen C:\programs\regen\games\sonic.SMD
game not run, just Regen run without game.

And if write: Regen --Fullscreen C:\programs\regen\games\sonic.smd

all work perfectly.

Very interestingly "3-button pad support" really work perfectly:
I play Mortal Kombat 3 and Comix Zone.

Small problems with speed

In game "Tiny Toons Adventures Buster's Hidden Treasure" in middle of game in bonus stage:
Wacky Lands in this place a lot springs and carrots, in middle of bonus stage appears minor slowdowns.

"Desert Strike - Return to the Gulf" have small slowdowns in all gameplay (in real thing not).

"Mig-29 Fulcrum" i don't sure at 100%, but it work very slow! :-)

"Sonic The Hedgehog 1" i don't sure at 100%, but game sometimes work not smoothly especially in Green Hill zone and Labyrinth zone
(sorry if i do mistakes, i really forgot some details in games) :-)

Some bugs and glitches:

"Sonic The Hedgehog 1" in Labyrinth Zone: underwater, when Sonic picks air bubbles, this sound effect sometimes
sounds not correctly (I sure at 100%)

I tested a long time function "Brighten" i check this function in all games.

"Sonic The Hedgehog 1" in second level Marble Zone, when i enable "Brighten" sky change to black color.

"Gunstar Heroes" in first level, when i enable "Brighten" sky change to black color.

"Golden Axe 1" in first level, when i enable "Brighten" sky change to black color.

"Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle" in game, when i enable "Brighten" blue color change.

All other games work well :-)

I almost forgot:
"Brighten" not work correctly with "Game Gear" Games, all colors wrong!

Please AamirM, tell me about "Alternate timing" more, i don't known how this work, i test a long time Kega Fusion 3.51 in last 2008 year, but no notice any changes, but speed always, show 60 FPS!

In 28 september Steve Snake released new version Kega Fusion 3.62, yes yes some fixed issues + some new features, but his emulator still have incorrect sound! besides, Kega Fusion 3.62 not have
PSG Boost feature, Regen 0.96 work better, Regen 1.0 will work more accurate THAN EVER! :-)

I almost forgot: in Kega Fusion have feature "Color Borders" yes i known, this maybe not important feature, but it looks good!

I not sure but in "Sonic the hedgehog 1" in bonus stage(Emeralds) balls with big star, when hit, sound effect do minor clicks.

I try to find "no noticeable problems" i try all combinations, enable and disable functions during gameplay.

I still not found any new bug and problems, maybe i found all issues!

Yeah, I've got some free time at my hand now. I'll need to get Regen 0.97 (and 0.97D) out soon.

Also, I didn't notice Kega was updated :shock: . And with a linux build as well? Damn! Snake works fast :) .

Normally, your sound card is used for timing and syncing. But sometimes there are problems (like incorrect reporting of sound read/write pointers and drivers problems etc..). Due to these problems, you see the FPS jumping and sound stuttering and other things (like slow downs) and in worst case emulator freezing up completely! So "Alternate Timing" method does not use the sound card for timing but instead uses other timers for syncing. The problem with "Alternate Timing" is that somtimes, at about 40-45 second intervals, you may get occasional sound pop/crackle.

As always, thanks for taking the time to test out Regen. I hope to fix the problems you reported and add the features you requested. :D

5 days of non-stop testing (All my 156 Games!) i found:

Fresh Bugs!

Game:
4 in 1 - Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing, Sram issues, no save game, maybe due to bad checksums, i try all ways but not work.
I cut 4 in 1 (WinHex editor) and make file "Evander Holyfield.bin" Sram still not work.

Micro Machines 2 Turbo tournament work with Autofix checksums,but another game
Micro Machines Military - It's a Blast! don't create Sram (maybe game don't support it?)

Columns 3 - Revenge of Columns, minor clicks in "Bass effect"

Asterix and the great rescue, i don't known maybe this special effect, but i think some music do clicks.

Sorry, old message with small typos:

Seriously bug after NTSC games, PAL games run at 60FPS and music play very quickly with distortions! I test it in Kega Fusion all work fine :-)

Maybe it bug of "Select Region"?

Please tell me approximately date of new release, and i put some money to download Regen 0.97 ;-)
