Something for mean people

Post by TmEE co.(TM) » Sun Dec 24, 2006 2:00 pm

I wrote a emulator detection program which detects if an emulator is used to run the program or not. It is very useful for mean people who write a game that someday will be sold commercially, and they don't it to work on emulators. Available at my site's MD section.
Tell me what do you think !!! BTW merry X-Mas everybody !!!

I don't agree with such tools. I can't stop you from making it, but to me it's a slap in the face if I want to run a ROM in whichever fashion I want, but I either have to hack around or do without. At least you acknowledge that it's for "mean" people tho =P

Why not ? everyone is free of doing what he want with his code.
But honestly i don't think it's a good idea since almost people won't be able to test your homebrew on the original hardware. That's just closing doors for some people...

Hmm ok but then in this case i guess that type of protection can be easily broken with an emulator update :)

Or a ROM hack...

And I did say "I can't stop you from making it", only that I personally don't agree with the use of such tools. On the C64 many people have used what they called "emufuxxors" to prevent running a program on emulation, but then the emulators either got more accurate or the demos were hacked to bypass the emufuxxor =P

just look at HazeMD, he got a real pleasure to make run all the HK bootlegs which included some kind of weird protection, those kind of stuff, just motivate people much more to hack it ;)

Rom hack or emu update will help, but one other idea of mine is to take advantage of address warping on real system. Ideas are unlimited but I will not use such anti emu stuff in my progs.
