YM2151 Tracker?

Post by CosmoBuggi » Sun Feb 05, 2012 11:49 pm

I am wondering if such a thing exists. I mean a good one. I have seen a couple or so that suck(even by the creator's own admission) and they seem to not have all 8 channels nor the ADCPM included. I have been listening to a lot of YM2151 music and am starting to wish such a tracker existed. I also hope there is one that is good, is not too complicated, and does not feel awkward to use.

You might ask Delek to add it to DefleMask.

I might ask that. I find his tracker does not feel right with me, though, is the thing. I would ask Shiru but he doesn't seem to want to bother with a new tracker. Unless it wasn't that hard to, like, take VGM MM and give it more FM channels and a few DCPM(really there isn't an actual one on that tracker, just an FM channel which uses the DAC as an effect command) That may not be exact to YM2151, but it would be quite a bit closer, i'd think. But otherwise, i'd have to think about it with DefleMask.

Just so you know, the YM2151 has no *pcm channels at all. For this reason most arcade games that use the YM2151 also have another chip only for the pcm.

Also it requires a ym3012a/d to get the analog output

however you could reverse-engineer the digital output and save it to a wave file if anyone is interested and wants to take this on there are alot of ym2151 chips on ebay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R4 ... Categories

Since you not going to play the music on the real chip, why not just use VOPM? It emulates 2151. If you don't have/like piano roll sequencers, you can use it with Psycle, OpenMPT or any other VSTi-enabled tracker.

Oh sorry I thought you wanted to play it on a real chip I might take that task on once the ym2612 from eBay comes and I fully learn how to use it on the arduino however I just bought it today the the only sellers were from china so I will get it in "7-20 working days" all the required parts are on ebay right now.

I myself tend to prefer actual trackers based around a certain chip/machine rather than synthesizers made to include the chip. If that makes any sense. Using trackers based around the chip just feels more natural to me.

If you are so picky, your only option is to make it by yourself.

Sorry for the bump, but just in case someone find this by search:
DefleMask supports YM2151 now, paired with a SEGA PCM soundchip (OutRun, Hang-On, etc configuration).
