Hi all,

I hid the project for some time, but now that I have something "clean" to introduce you, I start!
So here is my new flagship project, Papi Commando Reload !!

I would point out that this is not an official sequel.
In fact, it's an "HD" version, with everything I could not do on the first version made with BEX and edited by WM.

The scenario will remain the same: Papi will have to recover his Commostrad stolen by the evil CePlusPlus!

There will always be a succession of "Zone" to discover and unblock to be able to go to the following ones.

A few details however ...
The areas will be much larger and varied !!
As well as the more colorful graphics, more varied sets also, more in the spirit "16 bits", close to the PC version.

There will be different objectives to pass the different zones ...
In addition, the zones will be locked, which means that at each success you will have a password that will allow you to save your progress (And saves me the backups on EEPROM!)

Not to mention our friends Zombis who should be part (and other surprises !!)
On the other hand, I do not think of creating "Bonus" zones. These specificities will be integrated in the Normal Zones according to the nature / type of terrain!

The advantage is that I also work with AlekMaul & Grostonton on the port of Papi Commando on SNES.
We will work in parallel with this new version.
Except that on SNES, the graphics will be the responsibility of Grostonton, the code AlekMaul and I who run the joyful team! Wink
These two versions will have to be identical, with some exceptions ready, since the size will be reduced (16x24 px for sprites and 16x16 decors), and probably the little tricks that Alek will manage according to the whims of his beloved SNES!

On this video a lot of work has already been done:

- a 2048x320 pixel map (the width will be fixed, as the original game).
- Improved graphics being realized (Sprite & Tile game)
- Code optimized thanks to the new version 1.3 of Sgdk.
- Tilemapping engine.
- Basic AI management.
- Scrolling of the two Plan A & B.
- etc ...

There is still a lot to do like collision management Decor / Sprite, but I already integrated the main data to manage, remains more than to code and "point" all that!
But I could create really huge Map for this opus ...

In short, all if ok for a great project that many players expect everywhere in the world (yes yes ^^ )!

- Integration of AI death animation.
- Receding bodies during impact for more realism.

The rendering is just beautiful on my Nomad, it is really already very playable, hard to wish and this is only the beginning of the project yet ...

Doing good! A few observations... you have to shoot them several times while they only have to shoot you once - need a little better balance there. Also, they're immune to their own shoots - I saw many times in the video where they shot each other and nothing happens. These are bullets - they should die from each others' bullets the same as your own. I don't necessarily expect in-fighting like Doom, although that would be cool, but friendly fire should be an issue. It would certainly add another level to the game, moving so that they shoot each other to thin the herd. :lol:

Chilly Willy,
that's extremely common in 16bit games, simply there is not enough cpu power. Do, since there is only a few shoots and foes in this game it can be done. But, what do you gain by doing so?

A better game? :D Well, it still needs some balancing. It's seriously unfair where they can not only shoot through each other to get you, but only have to hit you once... this game would frustrate the hell out of me.

- Integration of new weapons with their own management / Characteristics (range shot, ball speed, burst speed, number of burst, etc ...) with the Magnum 357 and Uzi 9mm.
- Improved AI! They can shoot at cover, for some unit, engaged Papi, also possess their own characteristic (Speed, Hit Points, Weapons, etc ...)
- Code optimization to handle all this mess!

On the video, we see the game that I dreamed of doing on MD without thinking that it is possible ...
And the project is only at the very beginning, it promises!

What about adding kind of scoring with combo system (when you kill several bad guys in a limited amount of time) ? :p

There are better ways! For what I can see movement and shooting is random. You can change that to a combination of pre-made paths and aiming routines. Also more foes but less life will make it more dynamic, and could make more playable.

In the latest version, it looks like some of the enemies take up sniper positions, and it's much better balanced. So he's definitely better working on the gameplay, and the latest video makes it look FUN now. :D

That's true !

Some units take sniper position and other follow player "search and destroy" !
If you shoot on a unity, some units came in front of you.
Other are more "indifferent".

Look the last long video. ;)

With their different weapon :
- Soldier -> Mini Uzi 9MM : Range very short, speed very Fast, aggro time Fast.
- Officier -> Colt 45 : Range Long, Speed average, aggro time average.
- General -> Magnum proto : Range Average, Speed Fast, aggro time Low.

In the future, there are more C++ units.

Here are some screen of the Map being created with the new Tileset which has earned me tens of hours (and more ...) of work!
