bobthebuilder>I forgot to ask, you don't have any of the MegaCD or 32X unit connected to your MD1 when you tested ? Large rom do not support add-on to be connected.

Finally someone managed to get it working on its MD1 with a mega everdrive :

so definitely possible :)

That is good news! I had the CD unit attached to my model one, so that may have been the problem. I will definitely retry the demo without the CD unit attached. :)

P.S. Maybe some kind of elegant solution can be developed for these large ROMs, so that the user doesn't see any crash if their genesis/mega drive has a CD addon. Maybe a CD unit detection code could be put at the beginning of the ROM (Before any code from SGDK lib is executed/accessed), so that a warning screen can be displayed stating that the addon needs to be removed in order to play the demo.

That might be a solution but instead of putting it in the rom, i would put that in the mega everdrive OS. As it actually detect the format of the rom and can easily show a message when it detects a attached addon :)

I posted new video, writed on SMD1 HD with Mega everdrive.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xHnegl-Mm4
Sound have a lot of glitches. I had restarting playback some times to catch moment of begining of "bug". Some time video played without distortion from begining to end.
I tryed to run with attached "Mega-cd2" (pal) = p1 and p2 played very good, without bugs, full version not starting.
With attached "genesis 32x" (US) 8Mb version does not work, but P1 and P2 work right.

The video is meant to work on a NTSC MD as the playback rate is expected to be 30 FPS but still i don't explain the sound bug you got.
It looks like sometime the current sample level in the ADPCM decompression becomes incorrect and tend to overflow the output.
Do it happen when you play the 4 MB version ?

Success! I tried the 8 MB demo on my model 1 without the CD addon and it worked perfectly, great job Stef!

Well unfortunately it seems that some MD1 has sound problems, what is the version of your MD1 ? someone on Sega 16 has a NTSC VA2 and experience the same type of sound bug that you. Unfortunately i don't think i can fix that by software...

I forgot to test the sound version. It is an unusual bug, it doesn't seem to happen in the same spot. It varies at what point it starts, so unfortunately there is no clear pattern.

But the video is spot on and is the primary reason I wanted to see this running on my MD, so I can't complain :)

Stef, one thing I might've missed is whether or not the sound problem is related to the SGDK. Does Bad Apple use the SGDK? Do you think any of the bugs people have found might affect Goplanes?

I don't think anyone has reported a problem with the 4MB version, just the 8MB. So unless you plan on making a version only a scant few can run, I don't think you have to worry about it.

About the sound, i do use SGDK but only for Z80 control as Bad Apple has its own Z80 driver.

Mega Drive 1 - "High definition graphics. Stereo sound"
Model № 1600-09 (PAL)
PCB: ic bd m5 pal va4
She got RGB video output only.

Thanks for the details piroxilin !
Other guy had a VA2 US NTSC, your is VA4 so it is not related to a specific motherboard version :-/ I should ask Krizz some details about the 10 MB support in the Mega Everdrive.
