It's the player's home airship. The long boom underneath is the plane catcher and launcher.

The next step is to get it in the game and running on hardware. I think I should be fine, tile count-wise. I'll test out those bitmap tools I was asking about earlier.

I think the colors might need tweaking a bit. Some shades of grey might be too close together.

It may need some tweaks for real hardware, but boy it looks good! Can't wait to see it in the actual game!

From the description:

First attempt at integrating the player's home airship. Added it to the background plane, which screwed up the colors of the normal background tiles, but oh well. It's just a test.

Some of the tiles are screwed up because I probably didn't use PyxelEdit correctly. It can remove duplicate tiles, including ones that are rotated but that doesn't work on Genesis hardware, which only does horizontal and vertical flipping of tiles.

Next steps are to reduce the number of unique tiles (there are many 1 or 2 pixel tiles), export them better, create sprites out of the moveable/animated parts (which will also reduce the number of duplicate tiles), and see if I can combine palettes.

I wanted to mess around with HuC for PC Engine this morning.

It doesn't mean anything other than it scratched an itch I had recently. I'm not making games for PCEngine yet :)

Looks like a good candidate for the first port after the MD version is done. :D

A bit of unfortunate news.

I'm stopping all development for this project. Art and videos will also be taken down.

I wish and hope to revisit this project again, but won't be happening any time soon.

Thanks for watching,
DJCC.

I HOPE it's because a company liked it so much they paid him for the game. I FEAR it's because a company threatened to sue him because it bares a slight similarity to a game they made 20 years ago.

There have been several examples from past where someone halts a project when considerable amount of work has been put into it or there is a release on the way...

I know that has happened but I was just very excited about this game.

Earlier this week, I decided to release a version of the engine that powered Goplanes and named it Propeller. It doesn't have any Goplanes gameplay but there are enough elements in there to start your own project with it. It's meant as a example of how a game engine for SGDK could be done.

I've started a thread about it here: viewtopic.php?t=1373
