commodorejohn wrote:I'm only moderately experienced with OPx chips, but here are some songs.

dan.tfe, seven.tfe, stealth.tfe, zeppelin.tfe: These are covers of songs from Jill Of The Jungle, which, being a DOS game, used the SoundBlaster OPL2 for the music. I've been pondering writing a Genesis and/or Sega CD port of Jill, and I figured I'd at least do the music.

Lady Madonna.tfe, Paperback Writer.tfe: Beatles covers. "Paperback Writer" turned out a lot nicer than "Lady Madonna," though.

Major Tom.tfe: Cover of Peter Schilling's "Major Tom," but it's only partly done.

Everything else is original.
Your tunes (and the covers) are REALLY good :D

From Di Halt 2007 tunes I really liked UnbelievableFlying and Shiru's ZNX type.

Glad to hear it. I'm working on "Rain" (the B-side to "Paperback Writer.") I plan to use them as menu music in...get ready for this...a 32X CD version of Badger Badger Badger.

I can give you help with the 32X CD boot process if you need it. It's different than with a 32X cartridge game and I'm not sure if there's appropriate documentation floating around for the 32X/CD combo.

Sure, I would also be happy to share all my C routines for segacd part.
MOD, yeah, there is no documentation about the megacd boot... Does the 32x shift the mapping when turned on when in megacd mode, that would be double insane ^^?

Shiru wrote:Some related news. DiHalt'07 demoparty is finished, and first ever TSFM music compo is finished too. 10 works was sent for this compo, only 8 played at party (2 tracks was lost by some reasons). Here is tracks, (in /FM/ directory, in TFM Music Maker format) and results:

1. 6,000 UnbelievableFlying / TmK^[deMarche]
1. 6,000 znx_type / Shiru
2. 5,639 topor / karbofos^[DLCorp]
3. 5,417 lbf / John Silver & Alone Coder^[Invaders8]
4. 5,263 Difference / C-jeff^[Brainwave / SandS / Tristar]
5. 5,257 drumtest / Alone Coder^[Invaders8]
5. 5,257 Rainstorm / Warlord^[Armagon]
6. 4,571 nothing else just skrju loves us / n1k-0^[skrju]

All authors from Russia, except Warlord from Finland. Track 'drumtest' also uses SSG part of TFM (2xAY-3-8910 compatible) for some drums, this part will not sound in TFM MM editor.

Next version of TFM MM slightly delayed because I currently have some personal problems. Anyway, I hope I'll release next version in this month.

Also, thank to all peoples who posted their music written in TFM MM above.
Congrats !! Your track finished at the first place as UnbelievableFlying!
I'll listen them asap :)

Well it might remap the cartridge port from $400000 to the 32X banked address, but unless you've got some kind of crazy cart + CD combo game it doesn't make any difference. The 32X doesn't (and can't) remap the Sega CD BIOS or RAM.

The biggest difference in the boot process is that you need to upload the initial program for the SH-2s via the 32X framebuffer as the 68K can't access 32X program RAM and the SH-2s have no access to the Sega CD or Genesis RAM. Interestingly enough, given the way the memory map is laid out it would appear that at one point the 68K was going to have access to 32X program memory. IIRC, there's a 256KB gap between the logical place to start the 32X mapping and the framebuffer.

Alone Coder (one of organizers of TFM compo on DiHalt and author of packer/Z80 player) asked me to post this information here.

Because two of 10 tracks were not played at party, AlCo want to make virtual re-voting, which include all TFM tracks from DiHalt. It's to show respect all authors who support TFM, and not affect to official results of DiHalt.

Archive with works and votelist with some info is here or here. Listen tracks, rate it with score 0..9, send votelist to given email before June 20. If you can't send email by some reasons, you can send PM to me instead. When this voting will be finished, I'll post results here.

Question: it was established a while ago that the YM2612 has SSG after all, right? But...I seem to recall talk of some quirks; which (if any) SSG patterns are buggy or don't function?

YM2612 seems to have SGG EG (envelop generator) stuff and only that part. Futhermore it has never be intensively tested. On my side i saw only 1 sega genesis game which required it to have correct music... this is not sufficient to say if SGG-EG support is accurate on the YM2612 chip :-/
