Mappy and alternatives

Post by djcouchycouch » Mon Feb 27, 2012 11:38 am

Hi,

Does anyone use map editing tools other than Mappy? Or is it generally the recommended tool to use? Is it still in development? Checking out the Mappy forum, it hasn't had any activity since last October.

Thanks!

You could check out Tiled. There's even an official PPA: for Ubuntu user to get the latest version, or even a daily version. There are, of course, Windows and OSX versions.

Finally checked out Tiled. After spending the morning working with it, I've decided to drop Mappy. The UI is better and the plug-in support is better. And having the source code is definitely a bonus.

Nifty! Please let us know how it goes. It might be worth making some ties in GSDK to something like tiled. I need to look at that a little closer, see what they do for loading/using their maps and tiles.
