MegaCD life

Hi,

The MegaCD uses a CD drive which, like any CD drive, will die....

I browsed the web looking for any information according the MegaCD 1 failures: fuse, broken gear, laser lens, laser block....
some failures aren't thathard to repairbut, as soon as it comes to CD laser, it seems hard...

What I understood :
- MegaCD1 uses a Sony KSS-240a laser block and MegaCD2 a JVC optima 5s
- if changing the block, you need to adjust 3 pots...which is very hard to do!
- the CD drive logic IC are on the mother board, not on the CD drive and so...
- ...you can't change the cd drive by any other one

Do you see anything to add ?
My ultimate goal is the find a way to replace easier the CD drive because I don't know if we'll be easy to find a KSS-240A on 2020

Or did someone find a way to fake a CD drive by hardware ? Imagine a SD card with an iso connected to a PIC/AVR connected to the orange thin CD drive interface....dreaming isn't forbidden...even if this "datasheet" is all I have
