32X Schematics

Post by ob1 » Thu Jan 29, 2009 3:43 pm

Hey.
Has anyone opened its 32X to see/draw its internal schematics ?
It would help us to have a better understanding of what lies inside this silly mushroom.

Damn'

OK.
But maybe we could have something more simple as :

Code: Select all

+-----+
| CPU | +------------+
+--+--+ | | +-------+
   +----+--| SDRAM | +--+ VDP |
+--+--+ | | | | +-------+
| CPU | | +------------+ |
+-----+ | |
        +----------------+-+
        | |
      +-------+ +-------+
      | DRAM | | DRAM |
      +-------+ +-------+
Especially, if this is the case, if there's actually 2 SDRAM chips, taht would means the 32X main meory could be 32-bits (2 x 16bits) wide.

In the Sega docs, there is a fairly accurate block diagram with ASIC names...

I didn't believe this 32X Block diagram would be that accurate.
Anyway, thank you tµEE.

I bought a 32X just to disassemble (I didn't trust taking apart the 32X I actually used). The block diagram in the 32X doc is accurate. It's exactly what's there as far as the chips go. Given the block diagram and the explanation of the 32X we have these days, I don't see what good a schematic would do unless you were looking to do something like make an NTSC/PAL switch or something.
