Some YM2612 info needed

Post by AamirM » Tue May 06, 2008 3:49 pm

Hi,

I have been trying to perfect my YM2612 core and need some of the following info:

1) The old Sega2f doc says that when in 3 slot mode not only channel 3 but channel 6 also can have different frequencies for each operator? Is it ture? I see that neither MAME or Gens implements it. Is there any game that uses it? I've seen only Ghostbusters do this, and its track 10 won't play correctly in any emu except Kega.

2) What is that CSM control thing? What does it really supposed do?

I had some more questions but I can't remember them right now :x . Any info will be greatly appreciated.

stay safe,

We tested that here, only channel 3 has multi-frequence mode.

That's not easy to find needed topic, there is much topics about YM2612. I already said it need own sub-forum.

Thanks. So there is some other problem with Ghostbuster then.

The doc states that both channels can have the special mode, through look at the values (D7-D6):
  • 00: No special mode
  • 01: Special mode for channel 3
  • 1X: Illegal
Maybe D7 was supposed to enable special mode for channel 6 but it didn't work? (or somebody was so stupid to do the test with the DAC enabled, where anything regarding FM channel 6 except the stereo output is useless >_>) Maybe the test in that thread was made using only 01, and hence only channel 3 would be enabled.

I guess D7 should enable channel 6's special mode but something went wrong...
