Well, if you can't GUARANTEE perfect sync, the Nyquist sample rate says anything over half the master frequency will just create distortion. Engineers use 2.2 instead of 2.0 for safety. Since 33kHz is well above the Nyquist rate, I'd expect it to sound like crap. In fact, anything over 26kHz should sound worse than 26kHz unless you can sync to the FM chip... which is basically impossible on a "slow" Z80.
