shadow/hilight test

Post by notaz » Tue Sep 23, 2008 3:59 pm

Can someone please run this test on the real hardware (I still have no way to run homebrew, damn!):

http://notaz.gp2x.de/misc/gen/nshtest.zip

I just want to be sure that emus handle operator sprites correctly. Screen captures when the sprites are on the left and right sides of the screen would be nice. If that is not possible, tell me if it runs the same in emus. Note that the ROM is not padded, so do it if your cart requires this.

Thanks.

It runs exactly like in emulators. On Left and Right of the screen, when the overscan starts, nothing more than Backdrop color (green) is displayed.

Is the brightness of the spots is also roughly the same as in emus? The bottom one in the bottom half of the screen brighter then one in top half of the screen, and some of them completely hide behind the layer on the right?

If it helps - I can't speak for other emulators, but I do know Kega gets this stuff right.

Nice test, much better than the ones I wrote ;)

Hi,

There is a doc in this archive by Charles MacDonald which tells how the hardware generates colors (and the way its done in Regen).

The colors were right
(though it is hard to evaluate actually as my PC monitor is LCD and my TV is CRT and neither looks same...)
