What happens if you set any of the following VDP registers to $00:

Scroll A Address (reg. $02)
Window Address (reg. $03)
Scroll B Address (reg. $04)
Sprite Table Address (reg. $05)
H-Scroll Table Address (reg. $0D)

Are these elements of VRAM disabled, or are they still treated like normal?

All of them will still work at the addresses the $00 write will make them look at. In case of $00 all of them will look at somewhere in the beginning of VRAM.
