If the cart's been sealed the whole time, then it should be fine. The poster says that it has a game on it, so there's probably not too much data loss.

This is most definitely some pirate game cart.

If it was something made by Sega it would look more like that stuff here :

(I'll be making ROMs available soon, and some schematics too ^^)

Is that a Mega Drive control port to PC parallel port interface? That's pretty cool, I didn't know Sega made anything like that for their developers.

I picked up one nice little nugget awhile back. It's a prototype for Virtua Racing. One day I'm planning to load my own code onto the cart and run tests on the SVP, to try and fully document the chip.

Yeap... called Sega/Genesis Loader Board. I have not yet finished the schematic of it, but it seems inferior to the simple Mask of Destiny's transfer cable... latter requires bidirectional LPT ports though, Loader not.

Most tools Sega had probably used PC comm link. the Sega Art Tool and sound Tool cartridges both use the comms board, aswell as GEMS.
The ROMs are here : http://www.hidden-palace.org/?updates/c/34

And I wish you luck with SVP ^^

Whoa! Got any pictures or scans of the PCB?

Are there some missing elements from the current SVP emulation that aren't worked out yet?

I think some features that were discussed on the segadev mailing list back when are used only in the test mode and not by the game, so maybe they aren't critical to implement.

I haven't looked too much at it to be honest. I have it packed away somewhere, but I'll try and dig it up and take some pictures. I did dump the ROM, and it matches the (obviously misnamed) current "Virtua Racing (E) [a1][h1C]" in the GoodGen set.

Hi all,

Is there any chance we could see some good photos of these boards or perhaps a schematic please?

Thanks

Sure, I'll get my camera out and snap a few pictures. I've reorganized all my gear recently, so I know exactly where it is.

Edit: Wait, were you talking to me or TmEE? At any rate, I'll provide some pictures of the Virtua Racing prototype anyway. I'm sure some people here could be interested in it.

I was talking to you Nemesis. Btw I was really happy to read your post on your VDP Research - great work.

I know many many Embedded people who would kill for a decent Logic-Analyser :D

Thanks
