Sega Mega Drive/Genesis Collected Works

Post by Nemesis » Fri May 16, 2014 12:21 am

Anyone else seen news of this new book coming up?

Looks pretty interesting! It's authorized by Sega, and the writers were given access to lots of internal documents. It's 352 pages, including prototype design concepts and hardware/manufacturing details too. Who knows, there might actually be some information in here that helps with emulation.

I backed it as soon as it was announced. Looking forward to having a read.

I remember the kickstarter. I was just wondering a few days ago if it was out yet. Those production details will be very interesting, it looks like this won't be another one of those "collected facts from Wikipedia" type of deals (which is the reason why I'm not buying books anymore).

Has anyone received it ?

It's a very nicely made book and the interviews are very interesting, although I would have liked a little bit more to read and more hardware people interviewed.

The most interesting thing to me was probably those original scrapbook pages about Mega Drive VDP design.

Interesting tidbit there where it lists a 96-tile plane size, but only in one dimension, perhaps Y

Oh man, pity there aren't any more pages of that VDP manual visible, it'd be great to see the full official register list, might give us answers about the few VDP register settings we still don't understand.
