Must have apps for Genny dev? Art/Music etc...

Post by POLYGAMe » Fri May 03, 2013 11:26 pm

As I am new to this, I was wondering what are the best apps for Mega Drive art and music creation? I realise there are heaps of tools out... just not too sure what is the "standard" these days for sprites, tiles, FM music tracking etc. I am on a Windoze 8 machine, so I'm guessing lots of the older stuff won't run.

I have GIMP but anything that can be used solely for Genesis assets creation would help me greatly :)

I use GraphicsGale in 16 color mode to do all my sprites.

You can check out Retro Graphics Toolkit

It has many good sega genesis graphics capabilities. It also supports the nes.

I actually use GIMP for image creation. Taking advantage of the colormap feature. It's pretty flexible and will allow spitting out indexed BMPs.

Also, I rely on Imagemagick for graphic conversion, tile splitting, etc.

As far as music, Deflemask is pretty awesome.
