I wrote up a tutorial some time ago on how to create Echo music using various tools at the BEX Forums. Some of the steps may not apply, but the general principle is there. It can take a lot of work to get Echo music and the driver implemented correctly, but, if done correctly, could result in a very small z80 and ROM footprint. I also would recommend using a shared instrument base, if possible; it's easier to maintain.

As well as Kaneda's previous example post, there is also some example code, usage, and setup for the WIP Ultra Air Hockey (Retro) repo.
