I'm glad the main Regen thread has migrated. Hopefully it fares better! :)

Not very familiar with the game (one playthrough a long time ago,) but Streets of Rage 2 BGM 21 has an interesting sound playing over the music. My guess says it's a motorcycle noise or similar, considering 20 is the music without the noise.

Hi,
HardWareMan wrote:Mouse capture not working. I used "Cannon Fodder" and "Sega mouse" as input device, but "Capture mouse" do nothing.
I should remove it for now. It was pretty bad already. I will redo this again soon.

Also, I've completed the debuggers based on the Gens Tracer version you gave to me ;) . So can you please tell me the name of the person who made those (Nick o'DIMM??) so I can credit his name?

This is not Nick'o'Dimm. I know this guy only as "ЯковлевВиктор", so i guess you can use this name: "Yakovlev Victor".

EDIT:

Okay, I tried Eke's suggested fix and it fixes the problem and Nemesis' test ROM sound fine to me too.
I found that the best setting was to do like this during SUBSTAIN:
if ( SLOT->volume >= ENV_QUIET)
ENV_QUIET is the cut-off enveloppe level and is 832 (78 or 39 db ?) in MAME implementation

the ZAP effect sounds more like Kega this way, no way to verify on real hardware sadly

Feature request : YM2612 debugger much like in GensKmod and with possibility to turn on/off sound channels. That would be really handy.

I agree about the sound channels. That's of interest even to regular users, e.g. to record certain instruments for remixes.

Other than that, I have to say that I am kinda confused with the blurry video output of Regen. It seems to be an odd choice to start the emulator in a filtered mode and I am under the (wrong?) impression that it looks somewhat blurrier than Gens or Kega even if set to RGB.

Build test ROM and I will do some records from real HW. Then I will post it here.

I will add it.

It isn't in a filtered mode. Its WinXP which automatically applies bilinear filtering to a stretched image. Run it in Vista and you will get pixelated output. Thats why there is a default filter called Normal 2x provided.

Another nice feature would be to have the wave out window for each sound channel in the debug window.

You mean the wave logging for separate channel or the waveform display?

I meant waveform display, but the separate channel recording is also a nice idea :)

Continued Quick Save State discussion here, because I'm not using the debug version of Regen:

The Quick Save State function is completely broken for me, for all games. Sonic and Knuckles managed to create a state just before the emulator automatically closed. The state was *game name*.GS0. Quick Load displays an error, and Load State As... loads corrupted graphics that reset the game.

Note: There is no Save Slot selected by default on Regen startup. However, selecting a slot didn't help.

Unrelated note: After using the Save/Load State As... dialogues, the Load Rom... path points to the Saves folder. Shouldn't Load Rom always point to the directory of the last loaded rom?

How does the Overclock M68000 function work? Is 488 cycles per line the default? What's the highest it can go without killing the pretend Genesis? :P

Savestate issues: Confirmed.

M68000 Overclocking: 488 is the default. Anything other than that number you risk breaking timing sensitive games. It's useful for laggy games like Sonic 2's 2P mode.

Hi,

@SmartOne:

Unfortunately (or fortunately :) ), I haven't been able to reproduce any of the bugs you mentioned. Do you have the save directories configured correctly (check the regen.ini too)? I would recommend to use the debug version for now because it contains bug fixes for savestates. Does the size of saved state ~138 KB? Can you post one of the save state which is crashing/resetting Regen?

About overclocking, you have to try different values until you get a crash :P (I think Regen won't crash but game won't work). But your PC might not be able to keep up with very high clock. For example, I get 15-20 FPS with 8000 cycles per line :) .

No attachments on this board? :(

But you said the debug version is a little slower. :(

Anyway, here's my savestate from... er, I was trying to load a Sonic 3 state in S&K, that's why it was corrupted. However, I tried it in Sonic 3 and that was corrupted too. This state was generated from Quicksave.

My INI is in there, too.
