Behold the students

Post by ob1 » Thu Oct 14, 2010 7:57 am

Hi you all !
In my spare time, I'm actually a kinda teacher. And as it happens, I have students ! Usually, the only projects they get from me are some dumb and silly IT ones.
But this year, hold your breath, the university has allowed me to give them a much more technical project. And guess what ? I gave 'em the SuperVDP ! Yeah, you heard it right ! My students, who were born after the Megadrive and don't even know the Amstrad CPC (sorry Toto) are going to work with the magic mushroom (no ecstasy nor Mario here !).
Sure, it's still IT university, so they'll swap the ASM that I love for a much higher level language : C !
Of course I've told them about this forum and its members so, don't be surprised if some "beginners" arrive here and ask you some questions ;)
We had a meeting yesterday and I now deeply think that they will be handle to give it a real start.
Time will tell : project is due in April '11 !

Well done ob1 ! I'm sure that your students will love that project even if it's probably one of the most difficult they get ;)
Hope to see them here soon =)

I remember in my university years, i submitted my own project for master class : a YM2612 software simulator :p
It was afaik a good way for me to learn about the YM2612 hardware and finally develop my own FM core in Gens.

I dreamt to submit a "make your own MCD" for ex :)

Indeed.. hi all !

I'm one of these beginers students.

Stef is right, we find this project really interesting, not like the rest of php/html projects (puah )

We're actually reading everything we found about 32X, toolchains...
we red and tryed to understand GenKmod source code but... waoh

Reading some previous posts about toolchains...

Uh Uh... not a piece of cake.

You have to know, we got only school's experience in C, and never worked on any similar project.
Here we work on toolchains, we have to know how to build it (and what is it exactly ).
Then, be sure we'll need some help
I hope we'll not disapoint you... :D

So... see you soon !

PS: Our (my ^^) english is not very developped, please don't pay attention about it :)

Welcome on the forum :)

Building the toolchains and setting up your 32x dev workspace is already a complex task to start with :p
I guess it will take you sometime before seeing a "Hello world !" coming from 32X heart, but then here is where things become exciting :)

I wish you good luck with your project, i think you can find here many interestings stuffs, as the old ob1 32X super VDP topic ;)
