Alien Soldier graphic glitch

Post by Charles MacDonald » Mon Jul 31, 2017 2:06 am

I've seen an issue on some flashcarts and my own dev hardware where there are graphical glitches in this game, during the 7 Force battle when you fight the cat robot thing. It's happened with several different Genesis consoles. Here's how it should look:

Now what I've seen are the tiles are out of order for the pillars and statue head in the background. I recently bought a crappy Alien Soldier repro cart and it had the same issue on the real hardware which really surprised me.

Has anyone experienced this problem or diagnosed what the cause is? It looks like the name table for the background is copied from the wrong address. The tile data is valid, just the name table data is scrambled.

I wonder if it had something to do with mirroring in the real cartridge or something like that. For that matter, does this issue happen on a legitimate cartridge too?

My friend never experienced such a problem with his original carts on real hardware.

May be there are different versions of the game, just a suggestion.

Alternatively you can ask them, they are closer than you think.
So watching the red ones... let me check... biological and geological data with some no so good guesses, if you allow me. I got much more the first 5 minutes, that's why we got mouths, so to speak.
