Hello all,
I wondered firstly what the Versions that were released for the Megadrive where and the secondly which Version has the additional Hardware - was it purely Bank-Switching Hardware to deal with the 4MB Limit or something else?
Cheers.

There were a couple versions made, only two of which were released officially:
Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition (1993)
Super Street Fighter II (1994)
There was a work in progress version of SF2 Champion Edition that was previewed in various magazines in 1993 and it seems to be different to what was released as "Special Champion Edition".
Most noticeably it featured a huge black bar on top of the screen with the HUD (life gauge, timer, score, etc.) separated from the rest of what goes on.
Then we got a leaked beta version which again is very different from what was released officially as "Special Champion Edition". The version that eventually was dumped was modified to show "ST2 Turbo" (sic) on its title screen. It features totally different music and sound effects and also different animations or attacks as someone mentioned on Sega-16.com
This may or may not be a later beta version of the original Champion Edition.

Many thanks for the Replies, TmEE and Christuserloeser.
The Version I have since found it is actually Super Street Fighter II.
This contains an extra IC that you can see in the top right corner below:
http://gendev.spritesmind.net/mirrors/w ... hter_2.htm
IC 2:
SEGA
315-5779 A24
9420WK008
I cannot believe that it only carries out Bank-Switching.
Cheers.

It is probably only some small NEC gate array. It holds function of a nice handful of logic chips none the less, 8 banks afterall.
