You should see if you can find a copy of Easy Recovery Pro, it will allow you to recover files after a format (as long as the area of the HD that the files were stored on haven't been overwritten by new data).
Has saved my butt a couple times .

Something amazing happened!
My source code has been found on my flash stick under a directory I named "EvilDragon Software".
Well damn, i made it obvious, i DID back it up, and stupid me, forgot to check my software company name! (i was looking for "Source backup"), which is a folder I did create, but it was empty.
