megadrive 1 EUR VA6 sound

Post by bioloid » Thu May 09, 2013 7:30 pm

Hello,

My boxed megadrive 1 EUR VA6 audio is shit compared to my megadrive 1 EUR VA4, I dont think its caused by time/damages...
On forums, it seems only VA7 should have shitty audio, not sure about EUR/US differences thought...
This VA6 board seems to be used for VA5,VA6, VA5/VA6 depending of a single component (its written on it). It's coming from the boxed Sonic 1 / single controller first release in france.
Are you aware of this shitty sound thing ?

Note that this board feels cheap, since it has 4/5 hard wired things.
Anyway I've keep the case and put the VA4 in it, to get an ultimate boxed megadrive lol.

Sega used differing capacitor brands within models and I recently got a multimeter that can do capacitor business. What I found is that Rubycon caps were all 99% within their rating and other brands 75% or less.
Open up the MD and see what you got. The audio caps are on left in a neat row and usually 1µF (that means not a lot of falling space).
Mida sa loed ? Nagunii aru ei saa ;)

Ok thanks, done a close up video of the board : http://youtu.be/UIdIy4OOAIQ
Will do the audio comparaison soon.

edit:
Ok, its here : http://youtu.be/cM7_Zpj4g6E
But the differences aren't really noticeable here lol, in reality on an amp it's heavy. Surely the capacitors as you said.
