using the PSG to actually play music is more valuable than having an extra channel on the ym2612 in my opinion, and the 2612 dac is way more useful. In a pinch I guess you could do some simple high-frequency sound effects with 1-bit pcm, but it won't be enough for percussion. http://www.youtube.com/...

I believe the z80 almost exclusively plays music in the Sonic games. It sits in a tight loop manipulating the ym2612 and sn76489, usually using the vblank interrupt for timing. The ym2612 does have timers, but it takes a lot of cycles to check them and can slow down playback and reduce the complexit...

It is not easy to play PCM at the same time as playing music. It is possible, but not with these simple drivers. My custom hardware VGM player still slows down a little while playing PCM samples and 5-channel music simultaneously, and it's going to take a coprocessor to fix that. The stuff Genesis d...

chances are the less charitable people would have found out either way. I wouldn't have heard about it or donated if I hadn't heard about it in this thread. So, it's all good. Let's just outbid them. Also without us all donating and rallying for these things I bet the auction value would be signific...

I'm more interested in the Megadrive 1 and the Mega CD than anything else so I sent my donation to Kaneda. I'm fine with whatever you guys decide on though as long as you digitize it. I was planning on donating here for all the help you guys gave me with my ym2612 bringup anyway.

depends on the content and how much time it will save people starting new projects on the hardware in the future. Are you buying the manual or the content?

if you only use tx and rx from the controller port, you could actually make an expansion device that connects to both and control both of them from one ft232

Okay, that bitbang mode for the FTDI looks pretty nifty. In linux, the drivers are in the repo for Ubuntu/Debian, so I don't see any problem on that front. They have both proprietary and open source drivers - I just installed the open source ones. There's plenty of info and examples on using bitban...

I think Kaneda has it right with the ft232. That's what I'd use if I was making one of these.
