Sorry to derail slightly, but I assembled a UMDK myself by hand last year using the original run of boards that was manufactured, but due to zero free time shelved it after I completed the hardware. Is there a document nowadays that will walk me through what to do about testing and validating the h...

Is there a full/partial dissassembly of the Sega CD BIOS?

As the thread title states: is there a full/partial dissassembly of the Sega CD BIOS?

With the recent release of the Dreamcast SD loader - I think it would be worthwhile to at least examine the possibility of building a similar device for the Sega CD.

UMDK - db manufacture

Hi all, I felt it was appropriate to begin a new and clean thread for this... Just a small announcement on the topic of building UMDK. Yesterday we validated the FPGA board build and ran a number of successful tests on it including SDRAM, FLASH, etc... Oddly enough, I seem to have an issue with my b...

I'm highly encouraged by this. As a hardware guy most of the tools I use are in the windows environment. Until I started on UMDK builds, I only maintained a Linux VM - now I have an old machine dedicated to Linux; but honestly, having everything within Windows is certainly more inviting to many peop...

I'll add that even simple low-speed layouts eat up 8 to 10 hours of my time; so when I see a 4 layer PCB that does something awesome (such as UMDK) I am damn glad that I don't have to route it!

Well it's just your luck that UMDK is built on 0805 parts, not 0603

The initial "get it done for 40 bucks" target was immensely ambitious, one is lucky if he can get it done for twice that. I completely agree with this point, my BOM cost is $59 for the LX9 board and $12 for the Bridge board - that's parts ONLY - no labour factored in. * SMT inaccessible to mere mor...

Hello, needing some MD dev hardware here *poke* *poke* ;) I guess not all of us have full-time jobs, kids to raise, snow to plow, houses to maintain, families to visit, etc... I'm doing the best I can with the time I have. Conversely, the design files are available for anyone to build - I'm quite s...

Hi all, Just to clarify, yes I am coming up with a build and test procedure for UMDK. Currently one has been built but there were some delays with getting hardware to setup a Linux box (which I finally did this weekend). I also want to re-assure everyone that we're not trying to get rich with UMDK ...

The only way you can get the PIC microcontroller to respond to the #TIME signal would be to trigger a negative edge interrupt (or input capture perhaps, depending on which PIC you are using) - #TIME is not low long enough for any sort of software polling to detect it.

Very handy! I just recently bought a TL866, although I already have other industrial programmers. Thank you. Thanks! I'm still tweaking the battery performance on the SRAM circuit but all functionality is good to go! As I recall when I designed my Sega CD Backup RAM Cart, it was a pain in the ass t...

Now that I think of it, smart address decoding coupled with selective driving of #CART is almost certainly how the Everdrive can loads a CD BIOS from the cartridge port.

Very cool! How does it compare with Krikzz's new MD FlashKit ? Thinking about making some repros of a homebrew video game in development in the near future. There are major differences between Krikzz's Flashkit and my MD FLash: 1- MD Flash uses only 5V parts - no messing around with out of spec 3.3...
