even an MP3 playback tool for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was made that piggybacked off Gens Sounds like a pretty gross hack. It would be more elegant to port Sonic 2 to Sega CD... if it's possible (some levels change tiles midway through, also, bosses, title cards, etc). But, I think they already ported ...

You can't exactly do that with tile based sprites.

Ranger X has heavy parallax scrolling, extremely smooth 3d tube-like effects, dynamic palette loading to darken/brighten the screen depending on where you are, and the last level had fancy background warping as I recall.

Probably the most graphically impressive game on the Megadrive.

Why? Specifically coded effects for small on-the-rail sections of a game do not equal generic true 3D polygons. I only watched the youtube videos, I did not try the game. If they are indeed effects and not actual 3d (hard to imagine how they would do that, based on the videos alone), then tha...

Wow, a blast from the past. I remember when these were linked as incredible finds, back in 2001/2 when Gens didn't have a debugger.

PSG Sound "improvement" option from Gens.

I hate that damn thing.

The Saturn was way too complicated, had an underpowered VDP1 which couldn't keep up with the PlayStation's 3D capabilities, and a large part of the good Saturn titles only saw a japanese release. With the Dreamcast they corrected most of these problems and released a good console with a strong soft...

Hight is 224 in ntsc, 240 in pal. 256 mode gives you a little more speed I think, not rom space (unless you shrunk down everything to take the screen size into account - then you do get less rom space of course). Someone else will be able to give you a more detailed answer on the whys and hows, but ...

If the people here made a game, it would be something like the Zyrinx titles. Nice coding, interesting concepts, awesome as a technical demo, but playability is relative to zero.

Or to sum it up in a single sentence:

Good graphics are not about what the hardware can do, but what programmers are willing to make the hardware do.
