Chilly Willy, thank you for your response. I agree that there were probably not technical reasons, related directly to the actual chip outputs, behind the artists decisions in any given game. I also agree that funding, and the arbitrary decisions made by corporations regarding their own bottom line,...

My premise is simple, if we are going to make subjective qualitative statements about the games, then we need to consider what conditions the target audience was viewing the games under. If you can't see the logic in that we genuinely have no further basis for a discussion on the matter. Keep in min...

As I said, I am set on proving or disproving whether it is possible to measure the subjective aspect of playing these games on the output they were intended for. To that end, I have so far taken hundreds of movies and tested five different capture cards to arrive at this conclusion. Data taken from ...

Why are you using a lossy video codec for recording test material? Great question. The problem was presented to me, in here, that one would have to land upon a standard before one could measure anything regarding the actual console outputs. So, my present solution is to use the same video capture c...

My opinion is that there is a way to measure some of the subjective matters we are talking about. To that end I have just completed the first of many analysis on the topic of color counts. The first comparison pages under this new method are the Battletoads & Double Dragon ( http://www.gamepilgrimag...

I feel their decisions *may have been* justified. Without more facts I can't know for sure, I can only imagine what might have factored in to the decision. You do see that there is some argument to the fact that consumers didn't see what we are seeing right? It is also not established that more colo...

I think the "inexcusable" argument holds a lot more weight in the Sega CD launch frame than it does in the Megadrive's. I have tried to be clear on this matter, more colors *is* better. I think it would have been better if Sega had, somehow, added more CRAM to the Megadrive/Genesis while not limitin...

The spec sheets are cited, I am not making anything up, merely trying to simplify.

Okay, specs are off, which ones and how so?

And no, I don't take the word of somebody who resorts to personal insults in a discussion. You will have to provide proof from now on.

Two points. Given the relative uncommonness of the PowerBase Converter, I would assume that backwards compatibility is not as big a feature as you think it is. Also, just as you say "everyone you talk to mentions it", no one, not one person I've ever met with a Sega Genesis before 1999 has ever men...

Right. So to recap my misgivings with the "other side's" approach, I will give the following. 1) Parallax, or "excessive scrolls", is not aesthetically unpleasing or irrelevant because it occurs in real life, and art of various forms mimics real life. 2) A larger palette, or more 16 color palettes a...

First off, what does composite have to do with anything? Are you making some sort of handicap for the Genesis via its unique (crappy) composite video? I hope not. I've seen this quite a bit of this amongst Genesis only fans (and pretty absent from EU Megadrive fans as they ran RGB) and trying to ma...

I just ordered Kaze No Densetsu Xanadu, the first one, from Japan. With it I'll be able to do a detailed comparison of emulation versus composite out versus any other title. From what I'm seeing via emulation, Xanadu is only exceptional in its gameplay and art quality, but a full comparison may tell...

SMS compatibility in the Megadrive/Genesis is a huge deal, even in the US. I bought an SMS in 1988 and a Genesis in 1989, then in 1990 I sold my SMS and NES for a TG16 *because* I could use the Power Base Converter to play my SMS library. To this day I know people who own and play SMS games on their...

In searching for a screenshot of the Genesis and TG16 color palettes I found this 9bits palette: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c9/RGB_9bits_palette_color_test_chart.png Normally I avoid Wikis like the plague, but I decided to pop this into Irfanview and found that it only reports 302 un...

I updated my analysis to reflect the true CPU specs and sprite table. I like those comparison shots. The only thing I would point out is that the differences in some objects or background elements would appear to be a mere palette choice difference if you looked at these shots through the actual com...
