You should send a PM to HardwareMan if you want to see any more chips decapped and have the cash to pay for it.

I have vgm2mid, a version that dates to 2001. Also a copy of gym2mid somewhere, and a handful of midis converted by either of them. (too lazy to clean them up)

Damn, the vgm format is 10+ year old already...

Now, let's not open the floodgates just yet. As I understand it, decapping takes significant work, very expensive hardware, and it is a dangerous process. I too have a few Sega chips I want to see decapped, that I am willing to send for zero charge, but they are only borderline related to the Megadr...

I can offer my bandwidth for distributing any full images & data if needed.

Though with file hosting services being so popular, I doubt you'll need my help.

It's just spam - the current spam bots actually try to derive something that SOUNDS like it might fit the thread to keep from getting deleted. And now that they reached the point of sensible replies, they'll be able to reply to each other as well. Soon they will become self-aware and take over. als...

Excellent comparison pictures... I wonder how many Megadrive models there were total, and what the exact differences were between each model.

And one day, I'm surely going to start building a database on their parts numbers.

But that needs a custom cable, while rca -> jack is pretty damn common.

I get that junk mid-screen in Streets of Rage 2 as well, whenever a new part of the scene loads (when the "GO" sign first pops up).

Interestingly, the one on the bottom of the screen in the overscan area is different depending on if the machine is set to 50 or 60hz.

The video is unavailable.

But, I'm assuming we are talking about the static-like bug at the bottom of the screen, right?

Trace back the jp1-4 jumpers on the schematics and you'll have your answer.

Audio dumping is a fun idea, but it needs a lot of checksumming and it's hella slow. The KOF95 cart for Saturn was dumped that way too a year or two ago. However, you still need some way to load your code on the hardware. Which in our case would be a Sega CD or an Everdrive - For Sega CD, that would...

The one in the Sonic compilations was supposedly Gens based. Though, that was already 7 years ago, or so.

Are there any MD1 schematics?

Does anybody have schematics / wiring diagrams for the MD1? I can't find those strange shaped DIN sockets anywhere, so I thought I'd just solder an RGB Scart directly to the motherboard, like I did with my Saturn. Now, on the Saturn, there are numerous junction points where you can "access" the sign...

You could identify tiles by a crc of their raw data perhaps, and perhaps it would be possible to set up something that monitors vram tile updates every cycle, and switch tiles into the new versions whenever they are updated. I don't even want to guess the computational requirements of such a method,...
