The only set back is that these articles look at the chips from more of a hardware standpoint. you should have no problem manipulating sound if you obsess over the exact locations of each sound register. :P Yes, well defined globals should do the trick. YUP! Define your global pointers and update r...

I assume that you can write a ton of subroutines that you can jump to when needed. Subroutines such as: "FM1vol:" "FM3alg:" etc. I can't say for sure, but it really should be as simple (or complex) as talking to any other chip on board. I suggest reading this several times through: http://www.smspow...

Sweet. Very exciting news indeed. Soon you'll need to be learning about serial communication so we can wire a MIDI port to the EXT connector. haha. ;) Here's a quote from board member Chilly Willy on this subject, "The Genesis IO controller tops out at 4800 baud. MIDI is 31.25 kBaud. So using the s...

Another suggestion. How about you add a tiny splash screen or tone sequence at startup similar to the game boy's bah-ding! Then after that, load your own sprites and fonts. That way the TMSS won't change to your font, although it is pretty interesting. Haha, I already had a good one in mind, I'll p...

Posting in the main thread again because I have a comment. There needs to be some sort of timer to count how long a direction button is pressed and act accordingly. Currently the cursor will slide across the screen at a fast pace even if you tap the button for very little time. This makes it hard to...

Thanks so much for testing. Maybe they're both the fix haha. I haven't a clue why the font looks like that... Is it really as pixellated as it looks? Btw, I had a look at your disassemblies, and noticed you like to keep spare parts. I have an HP stereoscopic 3d monitor 1920x1080, that recently quit...

Well, I have good and bad news. The good: Both ROMs work The bad: Both ROMs work How can you tell which was the fix if they both work? :S The font seems to look terrible on my screen, but the TMSS looked more or less clear. I don't know if its the HD resolution or the contrast between your color pal...

Still changes the font in an emulator and hangs on real hardware. Keep trying pal! I bet you're close. There was something I read in another thread around here that caught my attention. This may be related to the problem. I'll work on it in another hour or two, after I get some of this code working...

Thanks for the useful information friend. I corrected the issues you mentioned, and now after reading some of those posts have a feeling there will be more even once this gets running on real hardware. Well... here goes nothing. https://www.mediafire.com/?l8dsi6pyiosyeqh Still changes the font in a...

If it's not poor emulation, and if the same thing is happening on real hardware then that would basically mean that my palette and font is loaded into VRAM before TMSS is complete. Which makes debugging very interesting. Real hardware does not change to your font, but the TMSS does flash like on th...
