Thanks, great feedback so far. Although many games have large tiles composed of smaller tiles, this has nothing to do with the graphics hardware, unless you count the NES where palette selection applies to four tiles at once, making 16x16 tiles made of 8x8 tiles a natural design choice. Figure 16 is...

Thesis on emulation

Hi guys, Wasn't sure where to post this, so here goes. (edit: oh, just noticed there's a blabla section, sorry) I finally got around to writing my master's thesis, and I sorta wanted to write an emulator but I wanted to get a general idea on how thing's are done, etc. Hence the idea to write a thesi...

Sonic 3D uses both RNC1 and RNC2.

More on topic, there are a lot of different compression format for various uses in MD games. In Sonic games there are three - you can just grab a disassembly and steal it from there :P

I don't think I would venture a pre-order on an unfinished product. What if it doesnt work out? What if there are delays (frequent with Chinese manufacturers), etc etc. Not a good idea. Myself, I plan to manufacture 50 PCBs at first and buy 10 flash chips (or more, if I have funds) and if they all s...

Time to finish my post. I've got a list of priorities somewhere in my mind. The first and foremost thing I want is of course the ability to run all Megadrive/32x (even the bank switching ones) with 100% compatibility. A very high place on the list belongs to the open source and updatable firmware. T...

elan: I have read your PM, I will reply later today, am posting from school right now (boring programming class ;P) As for details: I plan to make this work without any linker, or anything like that. I was going to program the firmware so it works as a Mass Storage Device, so it would work just by c...

Well, the myth cart is recurrently the best product for playing backups, seems. However, it look pricey and nothing is known about reliability as no one got it yet. On my very personal point of view... I would wait and see... For some reasons, there "may" have a better product in preparation, and n...

I won an ebay auction for $160 (including the boards). I usually get this stuff from developers by email or something, but this time a dev decided to go to ebay.

Here's their website: http://www.bytesizesound.com/

It´s version 2.5 not 2.0  . Great release but most games that used G enesis E ditor for M usic and S ound effects sounded poorly  . Others drivers sounded better: SMPS 68k, SMPS Z80, Krysalis/Hollingworth, Cube/Iwadare and the ones from Konami, Treasure and Namco. Yea... but good luck g...

Also, music, and DMAs to VRAM/CRAM/VSRAM in general. Sonic 2's split screen is done in VInt. And lots of other stuff.

I believe I heard there was a game that had most of its code in VInt.
