Re: Future of SpritesMind

I'll take over hosting of spritesmind if you ever get sick of it, KanedaFr. Wouldn't bother me a bit. I've got a few other servers online for various reasons and the hosting fees wouldn't be a problem for me. I have worked with other users in SpritesMind on projects. A hardware project and not a gam...

Re: New Documentation: An authoritative reference on the YM2612

I'd buy one of these if you feel like making 2 instead of 1, Sauraen. Wish I had time to assemble the kit myself, but alas. Hit me up if you feel like making another. I'm flexible on the price.

(serious offer btw, I'm fully aware of how much time and effort goes into a project like this)

Re: Dual-YM2612 hardware synthesizer

1) I have no idea what those 12k and 220k resistors are for. I suspect I didn't when I made the amplifier either. The twiddly bits don't make music come out of the scoochers if those parts are populated. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 2) idk, try it and report back. I think it's kind of hard to get an op amp set up to w...

Re: Dual-YM2612 hardware synthesizer

1) to keep the power source to the YM2612 and LM386es as noise-free as possible 2) yes but not the way I have it laid out (the LM317s need higher voltage to be stable). You will get switching noise when you manipulate the data bus and change pin states on the Teensy if you do that, and it can't be e...

Oh yeah if the eeprom doesn't have any voices in it it'll do that Uncomment the //flashEEPROM() line in setup() and start up the device with it plugged into the USB port. Then you should be able to run tserial.py. Afterwards, re-comment the flashEEPROM() line. tserial.py looks for the "eeprom.pak" f...

Good projects never die, they just fade away. Aly pinged me about it a couple times and I didn't answer because I feel bad for being so busy with work :( The hardware is basically complete, there are minor issues but nothing major. All that is really left to do is put some finishing touches on the s...

This book is massive. I was expecting it to be more of a light read / coffee table conversation piece style thing with a lot of art and design drawings like Sega Genesis/Megadrive Collected Works. Instead it's a big crunchy compilation of interviews, anecdotes, and history and it's serious reading. ...

FYI: Japanese game history book blacklisted by media

I don't want to bring any politics into here so I won't discuss the background story, but this book looks really good and has tons of interviews with oldschool Japanese developers. The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers is up on Amazon. I ordered it and I should get it next week, I'll take s...

That doesn't sound very appealing. The 68010 is not significantly more interesting than the 68k and it's not really faster.

Topic: [YM2612] Double-checking latching FNUM MSB

On actual hardware, if one channel's MSB is latched but another channel latches its MSB before the first one can finish setting its FNUM, what is the resulting behavior? That question is a little off - there's no way to do two things at the same time with the ym2612, so it doesn't actually matter w...
