I was talking about "Bike shedding" new CHD revision, which will include lead-in/lead-out areas with subcodes or at least RAW TOC. as was said, there was at least smf and me who has been working on it.

Re: Bike shedding a new CD-ROM format
It's not. The idea is good, the format itself is terrible. It needs a BCD image inside to be the proper MAME-grade format; right now it doesn't even have a proper TOC inside, let alone lead-in/lead-out/first pregap and even a multisession support. Nobody in MAME cares about optical formats (I only ...

Re: Bike shedding a new CD-ROM format
This would be great, but what exactly would you use to rip in these formats? There's different drives that can rip all of these components. I don't know if there's a single drive that can do all of them at once. which components ? afaik most of drives can return only data area sectors (but not lead...

Re: 68000 Arcade systems programming
I doubt you'll be able to find such notes. I'd recommend to learn MAME emulator structure. for example CPS1: src/mame/drivers/cps1.cpp - this is base CPS1 driver, you may find where: void cps_state::main_map(address_map &map) - main CPU memory map void cps_state::sub_map(address_map &map) - sound CP...

out of curiosity - does anyone has been trying to dump CDC firmware ? HD404019 MCU have "PROM mode" for programming and verification.

Re: Cartridge copy protection
one of good more-less recent examples: NG.DEV's games for Neo-Geo platform - no bootlegs or cracked copies exists, as well as no emulation. mainly because carts have NXP's ARM-based MCU, with internal 512KB flash rom, afaik big part of game logic code there, and no known ways to dump it. other good ...

if I get it right - forcibly enabled plane ANDed with normally final result color number. there is always color number, in your case it is border color ?

my fellow Arzeno recently found and dumped interesting looking MD cart - http://i90.fastpic.ru/thumb/2017/0131/4a/467f275729fcec036fab841cc673744a.jpeg MD Soft Checker Version 0.30 **Prg. by papi** (C)SEGA 1993.MAR link looks like a PITA for emulators - on most of it stuck at failed "Z80 RUN" test, ...

Re: Dump of the D-CAT16 handheld (Firecore)
I wonder why they added some much RAM but well, it costs almost nothing now so why not... if its similar to Sega Gopher handheld - game ROMs loaded into it's SDRAM (IC in right bottom PCB corner I'd guess) , which is quite big and likely used/mapped as both 'cartridge ROM' and main M68K RAM (and po...

Re: New Documentation: An authoritative reference on the YM2612
its going off topic but... you are wrong, here is a lot of old games was released recent times, mostly from DotEmu company. all of them emulated, for example Raiden Legacy in Steam and GoG is MAME-based. so I'm not surprised some people like Jarek doesn't want to see their's code and research resear...

Re: New Documentation: An authoritative reference on the YM2612
either it's something based on the MAME core which has an explicit "no commercial use" clause currently MAME in process of relicensing, so in most parts it is BSD-3 or/and GPL already. but not in the case of FM OPL/OPN cores, its commercial usage was explicit forbidden by its author (Jarek Burczyns...

Re: Decapping more Genesis chips
about SCSP DSP docs - there (almost) none of it. if I not mistaken, most of info comes from Dreamcast AICA docs, there is some brief explanation what its opcode bits means and how its workflow is. but it lacks of details. mentioned Macintosh software is almost useless, its like somewhat building kit...
