Hi again; I just noticed that a couple more things were posted to siliconpr0n. The YM2203 and YM2413 . I definitely see a lot of the same func. blocks in the YM2203 compared to the YM2612, but they're laid out in a weird way (PG on the opposite side as the sine/exponential roms?). In the lower-right...

Just a heads up, someone at siliconpr0n.org decapsulated a YM3438 and did high-res scans of the metal layer. It's definitely a different layout than the YM2612, although the typical YM chip functional blocks are still recognizable. Looks like the EG was shifted to being 'below' the ROMs instead of o...

The GPL is specifically designed to try and force other projects to use the GPL too. I don't want to impose license restrictions on other projects, I simply want to retain the open source nature of code contributed to Exodus. B-but, with the GPL you have the power of Richard Stallman's beard! And i...

I've selected the Microsoft Reciprocal License (Ms-RL) as the "primary" open source license to use. Color me completely confused here. You basically want a very free license but you're concerned about commercial use which is almost always allowed unless you're MAME, and having to 'allow re-linking'...

I'll use it for my new (and first) Genny game. SNES-style music on a Genesis? Uh... why? I swear, the 'chiptune' community is way way too Nintendo centric, and specifically the 2a03 for that matter. There's so much other neat hardware out there you can target and get amazing music out of. And not j...

The YM2612 still processes each channel fully, the time division only happens after everything is modulated and the bit depth is truncated. The actual PG/EG parts process each sample and channel individually, but that's different from the output multiplexing because the channels are still outputted ...

There will be an advanced operator editing panel for the YM2612 which will give a lot of additional information, including frequency information. It'd be cool if you could use it to generate instrument patches for exporting without a ROM loaded, or just export a patch currently loaded from a game (...

The SN76489 is just a simple PSG chip, it has no envelope generator. So no ADSR, mainly just frequency and volume. If it's for the YM2413, I don't know any utilities for dumping patches for that offhand. Your best bet initially is just to open it up with a hex editor and looking for the sound and in...

Quad-core minimum. As for clock speed, the faster the better. My body is ready. I don't think my laptop is though. :O (1.6GHz i7 Q720) ...which involves gathering performance information at runtime, and feeding that performance data back into the compiler to optimize the build. The Firefox ebuild o...

For 64-bit, you can recompile it or run the 32-bit binary with 32-bit compatibility libraries. When I do './configure' it dies with 'configure: error: 64-bit is currently not supported.' I guess you have actual 64-bit compiling disabled because of the 32-bit asm? Anyway, the demo works in the patch...

So after struggling with Gimp like crazy for most of the day yesterday, I started tracing out the components on my sliced up version of the OPN2 chip die shot. I started with the DAC because the layers there were the clearest. A lot of it is still unclear, and I don't think it'll get better unless t...

Are the lower 4 bits dropped of the 14bit output or something else happens ? Yeah, they're just dropped. If you look where I have the truncation labelled, you'll see 14 bits coming out of the Sine+EG adder, but 4 of those traces just end. It's too bad they couldn't add a serial output pin so you co...
